He has over 13 years of experience in data analytics and data science in numerous fields: advanced technology, airlines, telecommunications, finance, and consulting he gained while working on three continents: Europe, Australia, and North America. While in Australia, Tomasz has been working on his PhD in Operations Research with a focus on choice modeling and revenue management applications in the airline industry. At Microsoft, Tomasz works with big data on a daily basis, solving machine learning problems such as anomaly detection, churn prediction, and pattern recognition using Spark. Tomasz has also authored the Practical Data Analysis Cookbook published by Packt Publishing in 2016.

Denny Lee

Denny Lee is a Principal Program Manager at Microsoft for the Azure DocumentDB team Microsoft's blazing fast, planet-scale managed document store service. He is a hands-on distributed systems and data science engineer with more than 18 years of experience developing Internet-scale infrastructure, data platforms, and predictive analytics systems for both on-premise and cloud environments. He has extensive experience of building greenfield teams as well as turnaround/ change catalyst. Great premise, but I had a pretty big hangup about the story in general

PROS:
- I liked the premise very much. The sci-fi story’s parallels with features of the American homefront during World War II fascinated me immediately, and in spite of the familiarity of many of the main plot points--futuristic alien-vs-human war, telepathy, confusion over homosexual desires, etc.--I still found the overall story quite riveting.
- There are hints of grotesque humor throughout the book that give the whole thing a sense of the macabre (for example, a man who has just been knocked off his feet by a small tidal wave of alien ectoplasm “holding his scalpel up like Excalibur”).
- Brady and Cameron are well-formed characters, with complex thoughts and developed backgrounds and individual personalities.
- The sex scenes are both hot and sweet, confusing for Brady but also mind-bending--not only because they’re a novel experience for him but also because there’s a supernatural element to them.

CONS:
- (Possible slight SPOILER here…) Both characters have been sexually violated, and while the story doesn’t go into detail about either incident, neither Brady nor Cam acts like it’s that big of a deal, especially early on. One of them *does* turn out to have some psychological issues as a result of his violation, but those issues turn up well into the story. I was very, very bothered by the story’s treatment of this issue until at least halfway through.
- There are a few details that the story never explains or that are left unresolved at the end.
- The story has some little writing quirks that irritated me. For instance, the aliens’ speech is repeatedly described as hiss-like and sibilant, but there are numerous times when an alien speaks and the speech contains no “s” sounds. The very definitions of “hissing” and “sibilant” require that the speech have “s” sounds, and when a character is supposedly hissing the word “Brady,” I just can’t make that work in my head.

Overall comments: I thought this was well written, and I was engaged in the story the entire time I was reading it. I can’t say that I particularly enjoyed it, though: the overarching feeling of the book is regret. Sadness that their lives are so regimented, so tragic, so lacking in freedom or the promise of a future. They do get a happy ending, but the journey there is a little rough emotionally.

I don't really read science fiction, but wanting some gay reading material for my holiday I downloaded Dark Space based on reviews and byline. I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed the book and I totally bought into the main characters. I thought Brady thought like and acted like a 19/20 year old and his questioning of himself was credible. His burgeoning relationship with Cam I found involving and I loved the way the sex scenes were written, no clumsy verbal or adjectival use here. The end may have been a predictable end, and I always love the unexpected or downbeat ending, but here I was happy - maybe you always want a good ending to holiday novels. Definitely recommend this book.

I bought this book earlier this week and already read it twice. I loved the story; I hadn't read a plot like this before. I could empathize with the charters and it was interesting to see how their bond grew. There were warnings about rape scenes or BDSM but I never found them to be in poor taste or written poorly. They were written as explanations, they were not written to arouse. Those scenes were when the two were alone, never anything rough or offensive.

I loved this book so much I'm gonna look into some of the other novels.

Great book for any Avatar fan

My son loves the Avatar books. These books are quite detailed text wise and will be fairly difficult for a younger child to read and maybe even keep the attention of. I would say the average age of these books to read alone is about 9. 8 if they are a high level reader. My son had the Earth book and asked me to buy Water, Air and Fire. He carries these around in his backpack and reads them at school. If your son likes avatar and doesn't mind a rather wordy book, he will love these books.

I am attaching a page of the fire book so you can get an idea of how much text is on a page and the words it uses that most kids at younger ages won't be able to read - words like catapults, conquest, campaigns, dominant, barren, etc. My son has asked me what a lot of the words are.

Thinner than I thought.

I was looking for the story (chapter book) and this turned out to be a fact book. But anyway, I read it, our son is reading it now and we are going to buy the next one.
But I'm still looking for the story of Avatar in book form, so if anybody knows what to buy, let us know...

Gunner is the diary, photos and postcards of an ordinary soldier from Normandy to Germany in 1944-45. It also includes extracts from the regimental war diary and history.
Sgt Leslie Todd served with the 90th (Middlesex) Heavy Anti-Aircraft Regiment, Royal Artillery (Territorial Army) which was formed on April 1, 1939, with its headquarters at Alexandra Palace, North London.
It began as a cadre from the Finchley-based 61st AA regiment. Recruits were drawn from the Muswell Hill, Palmers Green, Southgate, Crouch End and Hornsey areas of North London.
The 90th mobilised on August 24, 1939, ten days before the declaration of war. The regiment provided home air defence during the Battle of Britain and afterwards, later training to engage ground and sea targets before landing in Normandy on July 7, 1944, a month after D-Day.
The 90th took part in the Battle of Normandy before supporting the advance through Belgium and Holland, fighting at Nijmegen before crossing the Rhine into Germany.
Proceeds from this book will go to charity.

Excellent tribute to a father

One of the most unusual books I’ve read about a veteran. This isn’t an in depth analysis detailing the horrors of World War II. It’s something completely different. It is Sgt. Leslie Todd’s diary on the day-to-day activities of being a soldier and performing his duties.

I applaud his sons in allowing us to be part of their father’s life during the dark days of the conflict.

The only drawback, which is minor, the title could be shortened. A little too cumbersome.

a must for daily inspiration

bought this one for my brother. Original one bought for mother in law, and after she passed away I took her copy back. Have read it daily for 4 years now, and will continue. A near-perfect book for OUTDOOR masonry projects

The "Book Description" review is correct when it says that
"The Complete Guide to Home Masonry is the most comprehensive and useful guide to masonry for today's do-it-yourself homeowner."
About the only thing missing from this one-sentence summary is that the book is nigh-exclusively devoted to OUTDOOR projects. (The short exceptions are damp-proofing basement walls, and repairing fireboxes.)
The book features clear step-by-step instructions and color photographs (one good photo for each and every step of every project -- HUNDREDS of photos total) for working with natural stone, stone veneer, brick, glass block, concrete block, poured concrete, patio tile, stucco, and hypertufa.
The projects cover all the simple outdoor jobs (such as walkways, walls, and patios), the common elaborations (such as adding lattice panels to a block wall, or laying tile over concrete), and quite a number of complex constructs -- like "Building a Stone Moon Window".
EVERY section of text has one or more illustrating photographs to show what they're writing about. EVERY photograph is in color, with good contrast, color rendition, and composition. EVERY project includes an "Everything You Need" box, listing all the tools and materials required. EVERY tool that's used in the projects has (1) a picture in the "Masonry Tools & Equipment" chapter early in the book; (2) a closeup of the tool in use; and (3) explanatory text discussing proper technique. If this book had the same comprehensive coverage for INDOOR projects (tiling bathrooms and creating concrete countertops are high on my wish list), it would be worth SIX stars!
