Because I knit all the time, much of what she wrote struck a happy chord. I look forward to reading more from her. My husband enjoyed many of the excerpts I read to him and now I've passed the book on to another knitting friend.

Still On Vacaton in the Land Of Knitting

Stephanie is a very practical knitter, when it comes to patterns. She is also a very engaging writer when it comes to her adventures in trying to make a living off the Land of Knitting. I've been reading her blog for a couple of years now and that is the reason I picked up this book. I had no idea of the scope of her imagination. She creates the fictional Land of Knitting to translate the culture that surrounds the modern knitting scene. I'm currently about half way through the book and have had several laugh out loud moments.

Traveler's Guide to the Land of Nirvana

While Stephanie seems to repeat some of her humor throughout her books, this is one of her best guides to why one should learn to knit. She answers many questions that beginners, and experienced knitters have about this art form (and indeed it IS an art form). She gives information, and justification about why we knit. This is indeed one of her better, if not her best book. Well done, Stephanie, please keep writing.

Compared to an emphasis on the design of visual form in architectural practice, the material imagination is employed when the architect 'thinks matter, dreams in it, lives in it, or, in other words, materializes the imaginary.' As an alternative to a formal approach in architectural design, this book challenges readers to rethink the reverie of materials in architecture through an examination of historical precedent, architectural practice, literary sources, philosophical analyses and everyday experience. Focusing on matter as the premise of an architect’s imagination, each chapter identifies and graphically illustrates how material imagination defines the conceptual premises for making architecture.

Architecture has been a part of the problem; these essays suggest it may also be a part of the solution.' This book is one of the wittiest, yet still serious books for the spiritual pilgrim. It operates on at least two levels. First, the humor is nonstop. Wes Nisker is a master of one liners and small puns. Second, if one reads with a bit more intentionality and stops to make connections with the figures and wisdom traditions represented here, there is some sacred depth to be plumbed as well: laughter IS theology in some circumstances. I highly recommend the book. I first stumbled across this gem many moons ago in its original incarnation. This latest version still meets a high standard.

Okay,I took that title from Gary Snyder's blurb on the back cover, but its apt.The author also refers to it as a kind of survival guide for our troubled times.In it, he blends quotes by everyone from The Buddha to Groucho Marx, Lily Tomlin to Gandhi,Kafka to William Burroughs and William Blake, "crazy" visionaries with wise and humorous perspective and ties them together in a fun and insightful way.This is a new edition of his original Crazy Wisdom which at the time I purchased several copies of and handed out to friends.Therapeutic fun

Very good for those wanting to explore alternative philosophies to the traditional western ideals. Great use of a wide variety of sources from American thinkers to Buddhist monks to Islamic authors

I have purchased, reviewed and used in class at least five textbooks written and/or recommended for standard and higher level IB Physics. All of these texts came recommended by other IB Physics teachers, supervisors, or the IB organization itself. When I first heard about Physics for the IB Diploma by Allum and Talbot, I immediately ordered a copy. I have found it to be the best IB Physics textbook I have come across to date. The material is exceptionally well organized to match exactly with the IB curriculum dot points. Each unit has a list of starting points at the beginning, a number of self-assessment questions throughout, and a very useful summary of knowledge list plus sample examination questions at the end. It is written in a fairly relaxed style with language accessible to high school students. I give Allum and Talbot's Physics for the IB Diploma my heartiest recommendation. This collection of essays offers the first translation of one of Warburg's key essays, the Gombrich lecture, described by Carlo Ginzburg as 'the richest and most penetrating interpretation of Warburg' and original essays on Warburg's astrology, his Mnemosyne project and his favourite topic of festivals. Richard Woodfield is Research Professor in the Faculty of Art and Design at the Nottingham Trent University, England. He has edited E.H Gombrich's Reflections on the History of Art (1987), Gombrich on Art and Psychology (1996), The Essential Gombrich (1996), and a volume on Riegl in the Critical Voices in Art, Theory and Culture series. He is also the General Editor of a new series of books for G+B Arts International, Aesthetics and the Arts. Edited by Richard Woodfield, Research Professor in the Faculty of Art and Design at Nottingham Trent University, UK.
